Choosy Mom's Choose Jif

Choosy Mom's Choose Jif

One year ago I would have dismissed the Jif slogan above as just another ad campaign or slogan trying to sell me, or my mom, peanut butter, but one day last year Steph decided to prove that this was a true statement. She claimed that Jif is way better tasting than the other brands out there, and that you can really tell a difference. Well, Steph set up a blind taste test for our admissions office and almost everyone agreed that Jif was the better tasting peanut butter. I honestly don’t remember what peanut butter(s) we put it up against, but no lie, Jif was 10 times better! If you don’t believe me try a taste test against Jif for yourself. Now that Steph’s a new mom I know she’ll become one of the many “Choosy Mom’s” out there!

If you’re a prospective student looking at colleges you will be hearing a number of different slogans and sayings, and I want you to know that there is truth, not just advertising, behind these.

Our current saying “Discover Yourself, Define your World, and Design Your Future” which is part of our Morningside Guarantee is posted on almost all the information you receive from us, and it says that you can accomplish all of these things as a student at Morningside. To learn more about this, and see examples of what it means check out our Mini-Website: The Morningside Guarantee.

Now, I’d like to introduce you to one person in our Office of Admissions that is a great example of what our old slogan, “We Know You” stood for.

amyMeet Amy Williams
Co-Director of Admissions and Admissions Counselor

When I first started in the Admissions Office 3 years ago, our old saying was… “We Know You.” Honestly I didn’t like this at all for a number of reasons, but mainly because I thought it was a false statement and I also thought it was kind of creepy. :)

It wasn’t until Amy showed me how she worked with her students that I learned this wasn’t only a true statement, but that this was the kind of personal attention students should receive; there was nothing creepy about it, it was just good customer service by creating better relationships with the students and their parents we work with.

When you work with one of our counselors, they really do get to know you! They learn more about you so that they can better assist you throughout your admissions process. If you let us know what you’re interested in or looking for we can better connect you with the people in those areas here, and also get you the information that you are really interested in.

There are six Admissions counselors in our Office that work with high school seniors and each typically works with students from a geographic area/territory. What sets Amy apart from the myself and the rest of the Office of Admissions is that she not only knows the students she’s working with, but she knows everyone else’s as well! Getting to know that many students and their families can be extremely difficult, and every once in awhile you’ll forget something, but not Amy. If Amy happened to meet a student I was working with she could tell me a couple months later, “oh yeah, Johnny from ______, he said he was interested in Music.” It’s incredible!

Amy has been working in the Office of Admissions for ten years now, and is also a Morningside Alum. She’s a great senior counselor and mentor to the other counselors. Again, she can be very helpful to have around when your memory slips. She’s also a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan, and loves spending time with her son Brady. By the way… Amy is not a “Choosy Mom”. She likes Skippy. :)
