Sad Day for the World of Higher Education

In case you haven’t heard by now, Dana College in Blair, Nebraska announced they will be closing their doors. To be honest, I really don’t know much about the whole situation other than the little bits and pieces of information I’ve been able to gather from the news, and from Dana’s Facebook fan page. However, the bottom line is yesterday was a sad day for the world of higher education. Below is the email message we received from our College President, John Reynders, informing us of Dana closing. I think it accurately reflects how everyone at Morningside College feels about the situation.

I am saddened to report that Dana College has decided to close its doors effective immediately.  The article from the Omaha World-Herald is located in the link provided below.  The higher education community and the city of Blair, Nebraska, have lost an institution with a long, rich history that impacted the lives of thousands of students for well over 100 years.  Our hearts and prayers go out to the employees, families and students impacted by this difficult and painful decision.

If you happen to know of any students who were current students at Dana or were planning on enrolling there as freshmen this fall, please let them know Morningside is still accepting applications for the upcoming school year. If they have any questions they may contact our Office of Admissions at (712) 274-5511. Thank you.

On the lighter side of things… On behalf of everyone here at Morningside, we wish you a happy and SAFE 4th of July weekend… please be careful with those fireworks and sparklers! :)
